Study Task 1

5 reasons why I chose to study on this course
  • I like that it is a specialist institution and smaller than some of the other universities that I looked at with more of a community feel.
  • The course has extensive industry links, more so than some of the other courses I looked at. You are also encouraged to find work placements which I think is important and was something that other universities didn't seem to encourage as much.

  • I hated my admin job and wanted to do something I enjoy and am passionate about, I knew I would regret not taking the risk and giving it a shot.
  •  I wanted to move away from my small hometown and move somewhere with a bit more going on and also to meet more like minded people. I liked the idea of moving to Leeds as I wanted to move to a city but not somewhere too big and my boyfriend lives close to Leeds.
  • My interview went well which was important as I had some awful interviews when applying to university the first time around. I also found talking to a second year student after my interview really helpful and it definitely helped me to make my decision.

5 things that I want to learn during my time on the course

  • I am keen to learn screen printing and other manual processes as I have only worked digitally before and am looking forward to being able to experiment with new techniques.
  • I would like to learn more about myself, my strengths and weaknesses and also to develop my own design style.
  • I would like to learn more about working within the creative industries through visiting professionals, live briefs and work placements.
  •  I would like to learn how to manage my time better whilst working on briefs.
  • I am keen to learn more about the design process from initial ideas to finished product.

5 things that I think are my strengths

  • My positive attitude.
  • I am willing to take risks - I quit my job and moved to Leeds to go back to university after 5 years.
  •  I am determined to be successful.
  •  I am quite good working in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.
  •  I am a quick learner.

 5 things that inspire me

  • My best friend Sophie inspired me to take a risk and to go back to university to do something that I enjoy and am passionate about.
  • Food, I like trying new food and new places to eat.
  • Members of my family who are successful in doing something that they love. My cousin is quite a successful illustrator and another member of my family is the chairman of a successful company that he started with his brother that provide storyboards, animatics, illustrations etc. for the advertising and research industry. They both inspire me to work hard to be successful in doing something that I am passionate about.
  • Architecture inspires me, I love exploring new places.
  • Design blogs and websites such as it's nice that, designspiration and behance.
